Knock, Knock

The kids came running out the back door yesterday to inform me that "somebody is at the door."

Naturally, I said, "who is it?"

Princess: "It's those guys dressed in BLACK and YELLOW!!"

LegoMan: "It's the Mortemists."

Me: "The WHO?!"

LegoMan: "You know, those guys we saw walking around the neighborhood the other day."

Me: "You mean the MORMONS??"

LegoMan and Princess: "OH!"

Welcome to MY world. Enjoy your stay.

Round and round

Yesterday, the wheels on the bus "cheese wagon" took me and the Princess, along with other parents and 4th graders to our state Capital......on a cold and rainy day. I am sick of cold. I am sick of rain.

The wipers swished.....the doors opened and closed.....the people went up and down.....and so on.

I think the only thing left out in that song was the part where the kid on the back of the bus got motion sick and upchucked on the bus, whose windows were all closed because of the cold and rain.

No, wait, another part of the song was left out......the part where, during the upchucking, the kid behind me was eating Ranch Doritos out of a can.

Get a visual if you can. Not going for the olfactory sense here.....just the visual.

I am pretty sure I could not have paid anyone on that bus $50 to trade seats with me. Nobody.

Just so you get THAT other visual out of your head, here's a picture of the 4th grade Princess:

Doggie Debut

Since we're getting the ol' blog ginned up again, it's important that you meet someone who came into our lives back in November.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you "Lego" (no surprise who chose his name):

He's a whole lot of cute.

A little bit of lazy.

A wee bit of sweetness.

Sometimes cuddly.

Often DIRTY.

But most of all, he was a gift.....from God.

And just what our family needed.

Cool Runnings

Last fall, LegoMan's swim team practice increased from three to five nights a week! Instead of my usual sitting around and watching practice, I decided to take advantage of this hour and half to get back into a regular exercise program.

For the last SEVERAL years, I had become quite complacent with my couch potato lifestyle. I get up before crack of dawn for work and after work involves supervising homework, keeping up with the never ending laundry and housework. I was certainly not going to get up at 4AM to exercise and at the end of the day I was just TOO tired.

I began walking a couple miles while LegoMan swam and at some point in the process I lost my mind. I downloaded the Couch to 5K app on my phone. This is a 3 day a week, 9-week program that takes you from being fat and happy on the couch to running a 5K.

Seriously.

Little known fact, if you actually finish the program you receive a lifetime membership to the Funny Farm!

Along with a friend, we started the program.....we finished the program. I went from barely being able to run 60 seconds in week one, to running 28 minutes NON-STOP in week 9. I won't lie, it was hard. There were times when I wanted to stop and walk, I didn't. I let my determination win. I am proud.

In November, we entered our first race. It was just 2 miles, but we ran the WHOLE way.

BEFORE:

(don't kill me Carol)

AFTER:

NOTICE: I am still upright and no oxygen was necessary

Our next goal is to run our first 5K in February and then a insane long-term goal is to do the Princess Half Marathon in February 2012 complete with a tu-tu and tiara. For real. (Teresa, stop laughing. I.Am.Serious.)

*Insert recent MRI results and talk with neurosurgeon*

My running days just got started last fall and now they are over. I'm not exactly sad about it. I never really loved it, I did it because I was insane trying something new. Besides, I think I'm the only person in American who can start a running program, continue it and gain 3 pounds in the process. I know, I know....."it's probably just muscle". Whatever.

I was really bummed that I would not get to do the Princess Half Marathon. You see, I had competely embraced the idea that my insanity would carry me 13.1 miles through Disney World, all while sporting a tu-tu and tiara (again, Teresa, stop it). This weekend I found out it IS actually possible to walk the course and I even found a training program for walking a half marathon. So, the Disney dream is still alive and I've got a year to get ready.

The last couple weeks I have had to rest and regroup. This week I plan to restart slowly with LOW-IMPACT exercises ONLY. Oh, I can't leave out the Pilates to strengthen my core muscles. That should be highly entertaining for all involved.

Stay tuned.....

noun \ˈsla-kər\

That's me..... a blogger who has been a slacker. Oh the shame.

This time last year I was gearing up to attend the Blissdom blogging conference. And 365 days later, my blog has been sitting on the roadside of the information superhighway.... up on blocks.

It wasn't because there was a lack of material. Goodness knows there is always something to write about around here. I could write a post a day about the Princess alone.

I started this blog three years ago, with the encouragement of one of my college BFFs. My first posts were written while the hubby and I were in Japan for my brother's wedding. The Princess and LegoMan were able to keep up with us while we were on the other side of the planet.

After returning from Japan, I continued to mindlessly entertain share my thoughts with millions a few people right here on my little spot in the blogosphere. That is, until last year. Somewhere I lost my blogging mojo and my posts got more and more sparse. There was an update here and and update there.....and then nothing.

I'm gonna have to blame my laziness on THE Facebook. What better place to post photos and update friends and family on all your goings on. Just like a blog. Dare I say, it can easily take the place of a blog?! *gasp*

This very blog allowed me to "meet" people all over this world and many of them have become friends in real life also resulting in a facebook friendship. Now I keep up with them there, and perhaps they keep up with me.......providing me with a legit excuse for not having to post here. I apologize to the 3 readers who might have gotten left out in this process.

One loyal reader and friend (Hi Penni) wrote this on my facebook wall: "Would you PLEASE update your blog? I need a laugh."

So with that.....I probably need to get this party started......again. Whadya think?
