Chucky's Creepy Canopy

It was a BEAUTIFUL weekend for a 20th college reunion. I absolutely love making the pilgrimage back to my alma mater for a weekend of festivities. There was a lot of squealing, hugging, reminiscing, picture taking, and endless laughing!

I spent the weekend with a group of friends at a local Bed and Breakfast. The house was absolutely amazing and the grounds were beautiful in their Spring colors:

However, I had a couple of issues with ye ol' creepy Southern mansion!

EXHIBIT A: After my arrival, I made my way upstairs to the room I would be staying in all weekend. I immediately noticed these items sitting directly across from my room:

For whatever reason, this miniature doll play area absolutely gave me the creeps! I mean, seriously, check out the picture on the wall. Based on the bow alone, I'd swear that is Nellie Olsen's evil twin. Never mind the CREEPY doll she's holding in the photo. *shiver*

I'm not completely crazy because one of my friends said it reminded her of the Chucky movies of days gone by. *shudder*

EXHIBIT B: Check out the "Baron's Bedroom" bed, which required a 3-step stool to get ON the thing. I felt like Edith Ann in her rocking chair, "and that's the truth!"

The first night's bedtime conversation included idle chatter about how high this bed was off the ground. When we put our heads on the pillows and looked at the canopy top, my weekend roommate asked, "oooohhhh, do you think is what the inside of a coffin looks like?"

Ummm, I *think* so! What do YOU think:

Stand, Sit, Kneel

This weekend I attended my very first Catholic wedding. I wasn't sure exactly what to expect, but I knew it would involve some sitting, standing and kneeling.

As my friends and I settled in our pew, a celebrity was in our midst. Anybody recognize her?

Now do you recognize her:

Basically she sat three people down from me and I lost my focus like Dory in Finding Nemo!

However, the woman singing Ava Maria helped me refocus on the front of the church. That's because she started off singing quietly and when she got to the chorus I thought she was screaming in pain. I wanted to order her some Morphine STAT! Seriously, it was beautiful but the chorus was a lot of crescendo! (pulled that out of the ol' high school band crevice in my brain)

No disrespect to the Catholic people of the world, but the Baptist girl will never take the 25 minute wedding ceremony for granted ever again. If I am not mistaken, almost 13 years later, I think my wedding was 8 minutes. Oh, and lets not forget how thankful I am for the cushions on the pews at my church.

The beautiful ceremony was followed by a reception at one of the local country clubs. I've got three words for you from the reception: MASHED POTATO BAR.

'Nuff said. Just see for yourself:

This will totally be a recurring dish at all festivities I plan. Best. Idea. Ever. (Clearly, I don't get out much, so humor me here).

The bride's cake was also slap-yo-mama good. However, this little bowl of goodness was the highlight of my Saturday! That and seeing "Edna" and her HUGE sunglasses on my way out the door.

Working for the Weekend

I don’t know about everyone else, but around here we definitely look forward to our weekends!

This past week was no different from any other week, except for the fact we had actual weekend plans.  Not just a play it by ear thing.

Friday night was movie night.  It was a no brainer for the GRITS group:

I’m not ashamed by the fact we L-O-V-E some HSM and, for us, this one was just as good as the first two.  And who can complain when you’ve got a 20ft Zac Efron on the screen.  Ahem.  So, if you haven’t seen it, you must go!  And don’t forget the Milk Duds to go with your Coke Zero.

Saturday, I went with a couple of friends to a local event called Merry Market sponsored by our local Junior League.  It was my first time to attend and there were so many vendors with a lot of cute items.  But it was a bit too, as I say, “chez froo-froo” for me.    I just can’t justify spending more on an outfit for my 7 year old than I would on myself.  I guess I am cheap like that.  I like to think of it as practical.  Anywhoo.

However, here’s my favorite purchase, a ceramic polka dot Alabama Christmas ornament that looks like the one shown in the photo below, which was taken by my bloggy friend Leigh over at Tales from Bloggeritaville.

And what exactly do you think we were doing at 2:30 Saturday afternoon???  Must you ask.

ALABAMA FOOTBALL

LS-who?

Ok, I’m done rubbing it in.  I can’t control myself.

The GRITS kids learned to work for their food this weekend when our pecan tree began dropping pecans from its branches like manna from Heaven.

The kids spent the better part of Saturday morning collecting nature’s goods.  And they’ve spent the better part of the weekend enjoying the “fruits” of their work.  Lego-Man is still holding out for a pecan pie.  I’ll get right on that.  In a minute.

We topped our super fantabulous weekend off with a little dippin’ tonight.  A little chocolate, some fruit and *poof* instant gratification for all involved.

Hope you all had a great weekend and just remember there are only 5 more days until Friday!  Everybody’s working for the weekend……
