This week's Flashback Friday picture takes me back to somewhere around 1979-ish. And it will probably get me a little bit of trouble.....which has never stopped me before.
At this time, my family lived in Hoover, AL in a split level house on a cul-de-sac. Just looking at this picture reminds me of so many things. Even though I was only 11-ish, I can remember spending weekends working in the yard, camel crickets always in the basement, getting out of bed in the middle of the night for an electrical "fire", and watching the United States hockey team win the "Miracle on Ice".
But none of that is what this picture is about. It's about the person in the picture.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, standing amidst the 1970's kitchen decor is my Momma. This is a picture of my mom in her "element"....the kitchen. During my childhood, my mom always served up three square meals. I'm not talking about Hamburger Helper either (thanks, Mom). Of course, this is not the place I'll talk about her making me sit at the table until my slimy and disgusting beets were gone.
She always served a good breakfast before school....one of my favorites being honey buns warmed in the oven. She packed a mean lunch in the Tupperware lunch box, which was often not complete without a note on the napkin saying "I love you". If my memory serves me correctly, she had a rotating dinner menu.....a dish she called "Rancho Beans" was another favorite of mine.
If you look closely in the photo there are a couple of other items in the photo that remain in my mom's kitchen to this day. Through the years, the tea pots have been replaced, because they are used on a daily basis. Her tea is always fresh, not too sweet, and decaffeinated only!
My favorite thing in that photo is the cookie jar, just to the right of the stove. Inside, my mom's chocolate chip cookies.....voted the "Best on Earth", by her family! Throughout my years in school, those cookies were requested for every classroom party. Mom, continues to keep the cookie jar full every time we go home.
Thank you Mom, for feeding me such great meals except the beets. You are so much more than just a great cook. You are a wonderful Mother in EVERY aspect of life. I love you dearly and hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day!!

'Fro Me to You -- That 70's Girl
What time is it??
You High School Musical 2 fans may have answered, "Summertime!"
But you 'Fro fans, KNOW what time it is.
That's right folks, it's time for Marcy's Sincerely 'Fro Me to You carnival.
For some of my new followers, you can go HERE to see what this 'Fro business is all about.
Basically, it's where I post some of my finest photographed moments of my life. And on special occasions I drag other people under the 'Fro bus, all in the name of fantastic fun.![]()
Because it's summertime, I bring to you a special presentation of photos honoring one of summer's greatest past times.
I present to you me and my twin sister's swimming lessons, 70's style:
Step 1: The ol' lure them in with the inner tube maneuver.
Step 2: The ol' "jump in, I'm right here" (while walking backwards) trickery:
Step 3: Time out for emptying nasal passages of all inhaled water :
Step 4: Encouraged to swim back to the side of the pool for MORE fun:
Step 5: The "this will be a lot of fun" lie:
Step 6: That's it, we are outta here!
Swimming was always one of my favorite past times in the summer. There was nothing better than a good game of "sharks and minnows" and a never ending game of "Marco Polo"! I can remember seeing who could swim the farthest without coming up for a breath of air. I wouldn't get very far these days.
For more photo flashbacks, head on over to Marcy's place HERE where nakedness is her theme (if that doesn't entice you, I don't know what will). And why not join in the photo fun, I triple dog dare you.

‘Fro Me to You -- Chillaxin’
Due to being on call 24 hours yesterday, I am a little late to Marcy’s Sincerely ‘Fro Me to You blog party. Better late than never….or perhaps I am just fashionably late!
This week’s photo reveals how I feel after working 24 hours of being on call at the hospital. However, this photo was taken a little over 20 years ago while in college.
Back then my stress level was due to different things such as an organic chemistry or American Literature test!
Or perhaps I was subconsciously stressed that I had been sporting a mullet for almost the entire 80’s decade!
(sorry, Jules, I had to bring you with me under the bus)
For more FRO fun click HERE.
I am so very sad to announce that Marcy is moving the FRO party to just the 2nd Thursday of the month. Which means I have come up with more original posts for Thursdays.
But on the flip side, this means YOU have plenty of time to get your posts ready for June’s FRO Party. Be there or be square!

How about another rousing game of I Spy??
I Spy:
- A new mom who should not be wearing yellow and looks very tired and puffy.
- A proud big brother holding his new sister!
- A new little sister who is NOT happy about her current position in life.

‘Fro Me to You—I Spy
Welcome to this weeks rendition of Sincerely Fro Me to You. Hosted by none other, than the glamorous Marcy.
For the guidelines to join in the Thursday fun, click the linky party button above.
This week I bring to you a little photo challenge:
I spy something with my eye.
Its got business in the front, and a party in the back.
Count ‘em once and don’t look back.
It looks like Mullet-Fest 1988. Or wait, this might have been from Mullet-Palooza 1989.
This photo was taken after my friends decided to throw me a surprise birthday party. And boy was I surprised:
Hey, look, they even got me a nice gift:
I was clearly in need of a Mullet intervention and they got me a teddy bear?! Thanks friends. And just for that, you’re all going under the Mullet Bus with me this week.

Fro Me to You—Say Cheese
Seems as though last week I got a little carried away and created a Fro post…. and there was just one little problem. There was NO FRO!
So, if you want to double your Fro Fun, you can click here to check out the fun you all missed last week. Or not.
This week I bring to a photo that was taken last week on my birthday. And it certainly won’t go in any scrapbook!
In honor of Queen GRITS birthday, several families gathered at a local hamburger joint for food, fun, fellowship and fotos (work with me, people).
Which brings me to why we are here…. the photos.
Me, the hubby, and Amy:
Me and all the kiddos:
And for my favorite photo of the night, me and the boyz:
Ummm, yea….thanks to my buddy Scott for the surprise on the count of three.
Notice how NONE of the other guys even have a clue what just happened. Just like yours truly.

‘Fro Me to You – 1st Birthday
Welcome to Marcy’s Sincerely ‘Fro Me to You Carnival. It’s the best thing going in Blog-land on Thursdays! To see how you can join in read the guidelines HERE.
This week I bring to you a photo that was taken 40 years ago today.
It was my twin sister’s and my 1st Birthday:
There’s A LOT going on in this picture besides my cute little self being held by my dad. There’s the whole 1969 thing…the paneling, the glasses, and the clothing.
I love the sweet little homemade banner, the cutely decorated cake and the crystal punch bowl!
There seemed to have been a ribbon-in-the-hair theme going on, and for whatever reason my mom chose orange to match her goldenrod dress?! (Mom, what was that all about????)
First birthdays are such a big event and I’m so glad I have this photo of mine!

SFMTY—OH YES I DID!
Welcome back to another edition of Marcy’s Thursday Blog Carnival. To join in the fun, click the linky party button above for the guidelines.
What I consider the photo opportunity of a lifetime occurred this past weekend at my big college “blast to the past” reunion.
This week I present you two photos. Both taken 20 years apart.
In them, you will find:
- the same exact person
- in the same exact same position
- doing the exact same thing.
I present my dear friend, AC, in 1989 (or there about):
May I present to you my dear friend, AC, in 2009:
*snicker* *snort*
Tell me THAT wasn’t fate! I agreed I would not post these on facebook. She never said anything about my blog!

Fro Me to You—May Pole
The Place: Judson College in Marion, AL
Each year in the Spring, the College plays host to an Alumnae reunion day, simply called J-Day.
Many of the women, who have passed through the halls of Judson, return to the campus to visit friends and reminisce about their days at Judson.
And for me, this weekend I will be one of those alumna who will make the trek back to Mother Judson (ok so it’s an hour a way). I will reunite with some of my oldest and dearest friends for a weekend of F-U-N.
But my visit will certainly not be without a flood of memories from my 4 years at Judson.
For this week’s Sincerely Fro Me to You carnival, I am going to share with you just one of them.
These photos were taken at the J-Day during my Freshman year. A traditional part of the reunion day was the May Pole “dance”.
Now, just for the record, I wanted NO part of this. I didn’t want to put on some fairy looking dress, and I certainly didn’t want to “dance” around a pole. (Ahem, I guess it could be worse).
Here’s me and my peeps from 3rd Floor Kirtley Dorm (me, bottom right):
Me and one of favorite Judson friends, Natasha:
The photo I wanted to avoid. Me barefoot, wearing a fairy dress, while skipping around a May Pole:

‘Fro Me to You— Stop and Go
Yikes, I cannot believe that it’s already time for the ‘Fro again. I love it and therefore cannot miss it.
This week I bring to you a photo from a favorite childhood event. But before I bust out the spectacular photo, let me tell a little story or two.
This week’s photo has to do with roller skating. And when I was a child, the only time I was allowed to roller skate was if it involved a birthday party or a church event.
Period.
No Friday or Saturday, your parents drop you off at the skating rink for a night of skating fun! No ma’am. Never happened. Not even once. But I did love it so.
No kidding, one of my favorite songs when I was young was “Knock Three Times on the Ceiling”…. which required skater participation by carefully tapping your skates 3 times (brilliant) on the skate floor.
And who couldn’t forget doing the Hokey Pokey on skates. What orthopedic surgeon came up with that brilliant idea?! Props to him.
And in the 80’s who couldn’t forget the “Couples Skate”, which wasn’t complete without a nice song by Journey and some boy’s sweaty hand.
Without further babbling ado, I present to you one of the only photos I have of myself skating. With good reason, I suppose.
I am about 6 or 7 here and clearly have skating fashion sense down to a fine art:
Yes, I am the beauty in the Pizza Hut tablecloth shirt complemented by the denim shortall complete with “GO” and “STOP” signs on each hip. This entire ensemble is highlighted by your basic 70’s white knee sock and beige roller skate. All for your viewing pleasure.
The original Tammy skate design is almost overshadowed by the young lovely in the dingy white bell bottom and striped shirt ensemble. She musta been rich, looks like she had her own white leather skates.
For more Sincerely ‘Fro Me to You fun, please go visit Marcy at The Glamorous Life Association HERE. I double dog dare you to join in the fun. Oooohhhh.

‘Fro Me to You --- That 70’s Life
In this week’s edition of Sincerely Fro Me to You, I am going to share with you a glimpse back into the 1970’s.
For those of you that may have missed out on the decade with the best home decor, you are welcome.
And I won’t charge you a fee for these must have ideas.
Let’s take a look, shall we, into my childhood home:
Oh yes, and how, do I remember that awesome vinyl couch. Why the heck don’t we do that anymore?! The perfect fabric for the growing family. (if you can actually call vinyl fabric???)
And my mother was certainly the Martha Stewart of her time. Between decoupage, smocking, and hand-crafted washcloth pillows….she should have had her own TV show.
I would like to know what the HUMUNGO deal was with that horrible dark paneling. Oh, wait, it was the 70’s. Never mind.
And to think I failed to point out the awesome vinyl flooring that strongly resembled bricks.
And how about those slot machines?! Yes, they are real and actually worked. I have no idea if they were legal or not. We never had to move and change our names, so I guess it was all good.
You certainly won’t find any of these decorating ideas in In Style magazine or on HGTV. And this photo has certainly never been in any scrapbook!!

This week, I wanted to share with you a newspaper clipping from 1938!
I’m not sure when or from whom I got this, but it is very special to me and, no, it’s never been in ANY scrapbook.
Some of you have met my Yaya HERE. If not, she is my 93 year old Greek grandmother.
She was married to Gus, whom you may have met in a previous ‘Fro post HERE.
This is their marriage announcement from the newspaper!
So many things strike me about this announcement. I love the way it reads “the attractive daughter”. You don’t see that written today. It reminds me I need to ask my dad why they got married in NYC. And, wow, they got married June 19 and “are expected to return…..August 1”. A six week honeymoon, folks!!!
I love that she is just as beautiful today as she was then.
And it makes me hope there are more photos somewhere of their wedding and travels. Because THAT should be in a scrapbook!
So as we keep the ‘Fro going….head on over to Marcy’s HERE and check out more of the Sincerely ‘Fro Me to You posts.

‘Fro Me to You --- Remember when
Dear 1987 Tammy,
REMEMBER WHEN:
1.) You had a mullet with slightly fluffy wings --- you know business in the front and PAR-TAY in the back?!
2.) You wore that gold serpentine chain you got for high school graduation everyday?
3.) You loved shirts with horizontal stripes?
4.) You were about a Size 4 and could actually get away with the horizontal strips?
5.) You wore your Swatch watch, complete with scratch protector?
6.) You wore tapered leg jeans and it didn’t make your midsection look bigger?
7.) You wore those Sebago shoes almost every day and with everything? (until your mom threw them away when visiting home because they were “nasty”)
8.) You went home with a friend for Halloween weekend and took this photo with her little sister:
Yea, I thought you forgot too.
Love,
2009 Tammy

‘Fro Me to You – Wait! Never mind.
*Happy Dance* The ‘Fro is back this week!!
This week I bring to you two photos I found while going through a drawer. Which clearly fits into the carnival guidelines, because these photos have never graced the pages of a scrapbook!
I am still amazed how a complete memory comes back to me when I look at one photo. Yet, I can’t tell you what I had for breakfast this morning.
These photos were taken when I was in high school. We were visiting my dad for Christmas and, as usual, went to Yaya’s house for a visit.
At Yaya’s house was her dear helper, Rose. Who also spent significant amounts of time helping out my mom at our house when my siblings and I were very young. She and my mom watched As the World Turns together!
We had moved to another city and hadn’t seen Rose in a few years. And since she was special to us, we wanted to get a photo of all of us together.
I would bet $20 these photos were taken with my handy dandy Disc Camera—go ahead, admit it, you had one too.
The only person left to take the pictures was Yaya. I gave her the quick rundown of the camera and my siblings and I gathered around Rose for the photo.
Everyone was smiling and before it was too late, the first photo was taken:
Ummm, yea. Notice I am talking.
Because Yaya was holding the camera in front of her body and not up to her eye to see what she was taking a photo of.
I tried to interject that she needed to actually look through the viewer.
And before we knew it, she took one more photo:
And then she was done. She handed my camera back to me and that was it.
I think she took two great photos of Rose!
Too bad she cut off my sisters’ heads. And my brother was also in the photo….well, not really. His short little self was probably standing right in front of me and Rose, if I had to guess his location.
Based on her photo taking skills, Yaya was well ahead of her time for taking photos with a digital camera.
Do you have photos like these that have never made it into a scrapbook?! Well, get them out and join in the fun!

‘Fro Me to You— That’s ShowBiz
The Who: Yours truly
The Year: about 1984
The Location: ShowBiz Pizza, bay-bee
The clothes: My favorite kelly green skirt, accompanied by a white polo shirt, accented by a pair of white leather Bass sandals, accessorized with one set of pinwheel deely-boppers and a helium balloon.
Nice, huh? I realize so many of you will be jealous of my good looks and fashion sense during my high school years. I cannot even address my ladylike pose.
What can I say other than that was Sincerely ‘Fro Me to You!
This photo has obviously never been in ANY scrapbook, but it did find a home on facebook.

‘Fro Me to You—The “S” Word
My how time flies in the blog world! Can you believe it’s time again for Kristen’s Sincerely ‘Fro Me to You blog carnival??
I think it’s only appropriate to share these photos with you this week.
I know a lot of my bloggy peeps are currently bound by the death grip of Old Man Winter. Snow, ice and freezing temperatures.
This Southern girl types that with SLIGHT jealousy in her heart. Because we rarely have a winter event in these here parts. And we like to experience just a bit of it every now and again.
I am not holding my breath, but the “S” word has been uttered as a POSSIBILITY in the 5 day forecast.
We’ve got a saying around these parts when it comes to the “S” word. It goes something like this: “I won’t believe it until I see it!"
Take a look at my kids this time last year on a COLD Saturday morning here in God’s country:
Just cold enough for the white stuff to fall from the sky, but not cold enough to change out of pajamas!
So excited we had to call grandparents and let them know!
And one of us couldn’t keep our mouth closed!
Here’s to hoping that we at least get a chance to update our GRITS snow pictures for 2009.
For more ‘Fro Me to You fun, click here to head on over to We Are THAT Family where you will find more than enough photos that have never graced the pages of any scrapbook!
