Thoughts on Therapy

As I mentioned in a couple of earlier posts, I injured my back several weeks ago. Since then, I've had a series of 3 sets of blocks and been going to physical therapy classes a few times a week.

I'm getting better. Progress is slow and steady, which is frustrating. In two months, I've gone from running 2-3 miles about 3 times a week to barely any activity at all. This week I'm up to a whopping 5 minutes on the recumbent bike.

Do you know how many calories you burn on the bike for 5 minutes.

THIRTEEN.

The pounds are just melting away here. Or not.

Here is where I've been spending the majority of my therapy time:

I spend an hour in here a couple times a week. As you can probably imagine, I am usually the youngest patient in the water......by a couple of decades at the least.

I do my exercises, but I also watch.....and listen.

There is A LOT to be learned if one just watches and listens. A LOT.

  • If you are over 60, make-up, especially lipstick, is a must
  • Hair is not to get wet during pool therapy
  • Older ladies talk a lot about food during therapy
  • Older ladies will not pay $3 for a Gigi's cupcake. I will.
  • Warm water makes older gentlemen VERY chatty
  • Warm water makes people talk louder and tell ALL their business
  • Tattoos on older people probably don't look like the original object
  • Swimsuits with skirts do not always cover enough surface area

Capital, Coffee, and Commode

Due to my lack of blogging, y'all had no idea that LegoMan and I went on a 5-day trip to Washington, D.C. with his 6th grade class last November.

You also wouldn't have known that we:

1. Had a GREAT time

2. Had cupcakes from the infamous Georgetown Cupcake (and, no, I didn't wait in line for hours for them....somebody else did)

3. LegoMan, and a few other classmates, woke up with a horrible stomach bug THE MORNING of our last day. Thankfully, for most of them, the bad parts of the virus were over by the time we left for the airport.

Facts about me that friends in real life know: I LOVE coffee and I am a *little* germ-o-phobic.

So, imagine my surprise when I arrived in our Washington, D.C. hotel room and saw THIS:

Dear Hampton Inn,

Coffee pots DO NOT go in bathrooms.

Love,

The Greek Girl

The Other Side

Control.

Janet Jackson sang about it.

Everyone wants it.

Nobody wants to give it up.

Especially me.

I mentioned having an MRI in one of my recent posts, and, basically, it revealed a degenerative disc in my lower spine. Also in that area I have some inflammation resulting in lower back and leg pain. The doctor recommended a few things including physical therapy, medications and a series of nerve blocks.

*gasp*

Yesterday I went for my first nerve block. I wasn't worried about the procedure itself, I was MORE worried about someone else sedating me. Seriously, THAT was my biggest anxiety. I am usually the sedater, not the sedatee.

The nurse started my IV, gave me some "relaxing" medicine, wheeled me into the procedure room, and had me position myself on the table. I remember it all. Next, I look at the anesthesiologist start pushing the IV sedative.....the last thing I remember saying was, "now don't give me too much of that."

Control much?

Sent with love

We've decided the magic number for owning a cell phone in our house is 13.

*insert gasping sound from an 11 and 9 year old*

I realize that does not make us the coolest parents on the block but, ummmmm, we don't care.

However, like any normal child over the age of 5, both of my kids know how to send and retrieve text messages on our phones.

LegoMan recently acquired the hubby's retired iPhone, minus the SIM card, which renders it as an iPod Touch. FYI, there is an app to send free text messages via Wi-Fi connections.

I had the Princess with me on a recent visit to the Hair Whisperer. While getting my hair did, I heard my phone beep for an incoming text message. The Princess quickly volunteered to field my message. She informed me it was LegoMan and said she would send him a message back. I heard her send a couple of messages and that was it.

What do two siblings who love each other so much text to one another.....see for yourself.

I'm so proud.

Greetings and Salutations

Look who's back at the typewriter.....that's 80's talk for look who's back at the KEYBOARD.

I'm not sure why I always feel compelled to explain when I step back and take a break away from my Big Fat Greek Blog. I just do.

When I was encouraged to start this little corner of the Internet, I had no idea what I was doing or where I would go with this whole blog thing. I still have no clue what I am doing, but I am still here over 3 years later and 350+ posts. I even have over 70 followers, how cRaZY is that? Of course, I have no idea how many of those 74 followers actually read my posts. But I HAVE followers! Yesterday I logged in to find that I had lost 1 follower and for some reason it hurt my feelings.

I'll be honest, sometimes I think about shutting this place down.....wondering if anybody in the blog-o-sphere would actually miss the GRITS place. But, ya' know, I didn't exactly create this space with anybody else in mind. I never dreamed that if I "built" it, "they" would come. Through this blog I have met so many people from, literally, all over the world....some of whom I have met in real life and others I hope to meet one day. The blog world is a huge place, filled to the brim with some very wonderful people. If you don't know it....click on some of my blog links in the sidebar for a start.

This space was initially created for family members to keep up with us and somehow it turned into a place for me to foster my slightly creative side. When I say creative, I sure as heck don't mean grammatically correct, hanging on the edge of your seat, or thought provoking writings. My middle and high school English teachers would shudder to hear that I was writing material that other people actually read. My book reports and term papers often looked like someone turned a toddler with a red ink pen loose on them . But those memories didn't stop me from blogging....no siree! I have overcome the wrath of the red pen, because I'm strong like that.

If it's not blatantly obvious, humor plays a HUGE role in my life. I really like to make people laugh and I LOVE to laugh. Too bad "funny" is not on the spiritual gift list, but would it be bold for me to call it my ministry? People tell me I am funny. My mother thinks I should write books like Erma Bombeck.....which cracks me up! Besides, she's my mom and she's required to say stuff like that. (I love you, Mom) However, I wouldn't say I am the funniest person on Earth; but, I do like to incorporate humor in almost every aspect of my life on a daily basis.

I have spent the last 15 years of my life in the medical field both as Critical Care Nurse and now as a Nurse Anesthetist. My job can be VERY stressful. I have seen and dealt with a lot of heaviness and sadness on a regular basis. For me, humor is every bit a part of my uniform as much as my ID badge. I have been known to lighten the mood before surgery by telling a male patient, "I think you will be very pleased with your breast implants!"

This blog is just another outlet for me.....a place where laughing is the rule of the land most days. I might not be here regularly and you might not even notice. You know what? That's ok with me.

I don't really have a personal mission statement, but if I did it would have something to do with using humor to bring a smile to at least one person's face each day.

Back to Life, Back to Reality

Y'all remember that song, right?!

Last week, the GRITS family was immersed back into the real world after a restful week off after Christmas.

The kiddies went back to school on the 4th and I jumped back onto the anesthesia planet with both feet!

The big news for this past week has been the weather. The South has been in the grips of sub-freezing temperatures. Now y'all, we aren't built to endure such torture.

And the forecast for the dreaded "S" word, showed up early last week. As per standard protocol, pandemonium broke out, milk and bread were scooped up off grocery store shelves and the schools were closed on Thursday.

It was all for naught, snowflakes did fall from the sky and that was about it. No surprise. Better luck next time with your forecast, dear meteorologists.

Now on to the more important event from last week.....

Anybody watch that little football game on Thursday night??

Can I get a hearty ROLL TIDE

It wasn't the prettiest win on record (ahem, SEC championship game), but we did win.

As per standard fan protocol we all were sporting our team's colors. Lego-Man was wearing his Alabama cap that he has worn on every game day this year. We had to send him to bed at his usual bedtime because the not-so-snow-day was not continued on Friday.

Here's how we found our dedicated Alabama fan around midnight:

When we asked him why he wore his hat to bed, he replied, "every time I've worn it that way, Alabama wins."

Spoken like a true 'Bama fan who just learned what it means to be National Champions!

Now, I'm not a country music fan by any stretch (we'll save that discussion for another post), but I found this and thought my fellow Alabama fans would enjoy:

Raindrops on Roses….

You know the song and I’ve had this post in my head for the last few weeks.

Oprah’s got a list.

Cindy’s got a list.

And I’ve got a list.

Allow me to introduce to you, a few of my new favorite things:

1.   Meet my new morning BFF made by Keurig.  This is a single serve coffee system and brews a STEAMING hot cup of coffee, tea or cocoa in mere seconds!  This little invention is right up there with the DVR!

image

2.  My feet are pretty happy about these next little gems.  They are Rainbow Sandals, the latest and greatest shoe craze among the generation I refer to as “kids”.  Which would include anyone in college and below!

The pair I bought has what Rainbow refers to as a “double layer” arch support, which is so much better than just plain ol’ flat flip flops.  They are a little more expensive than, say, Yellow Box flip flops; however, they come with a sole guarantee.  If I could wear these to work, I would!

image

3.  This next item will probably result in harassment from people who actually know me, but I don’t care.  For my birthday month, I got a coupon in the mail for $20 off any Vera Bradley item.  And quite frankly I needed a new purse.  So I thought why not get something cute, so I did.

The print I chose matches NOTHING I own.  Come to think of it I’m not sure any of their prints do.  If I may Ms. Bradley, I’d like to throw out a suggestion right here.  How about a Madras Plaid collection for the LL Bean girls of the world???  Would that be too much to ask?

Meet my “Purple Punch Hipster” :

Thank you, thank you very much.

Now, you tell me a few of your favorite things!

News of the Weird

You’ve all seen these news reports…. cRaZY stories that make you sit there with your mouth wide open.

I saw this story on the Today Show this morning:

And if that wasn’t crazy enough…. has anyone else seen this website:

image

Yes, it’s exactly what you think it is!!

How funny is it the site is sponsored by CHARMIN?!  As a complete bathroom germophobe, I would like to see Purell link up as a sponsor partner!  Thankyouverymuch.

FYI, in my book ALL bathrooms fit into the SQUAT category.  TMI, I know.  I’m just sayin’.   Just keeping it real.

So, if you are interested in knowing how bathrooms in your area rate, click on the box above.   Or, even better, you can download this as an application on your iPhone or Blackberry….AND you can follow them on twitter (whatever that means).

Who Dunnit?

Once again, the innocent art of downloading the family digital camera has revealed its hijacking by someone under the age of  *cough* forty *cough*.

Have no fear peeps,  I’ve seen enough episodes of Colombo, Kojak and Scooby-Doo to get to the bottom of this photo hijinx.

May I present to you Exhibits A, B, C:

P2240004-1

      “Pearl”

P2240006-1

     “Hedgie”

P2240005-1

      “Samuel”

(These would all be the Webkinz of a certain someone)

Exhibit D:

P2240007

P2240008

P2240009-1 P2240010-1

(Is it just me or does anyone else out there find baby dolls “sleeping” a bit CREEPY???)

I feel like Colombo is about to crack the case of the mystery photographer wide open!   But before we make a final conclusion lets look a little further.

Exhibit E:

P2240013

Meet “Cocoa” the neighbor’s dog.  Taken by a certain someone through their bedroom blinds.

*insert mystery solving music*

Exhibit F, G, H:

P2240002

Bailey waiting on instructions to enter or looking for a pal to shoot some hoops.

P2240003

What can I say, we are firm believers in hand washing and here’s the proof.

P2240015

Hmmm, hubby and I studying something up in the tree??

(These last 3 photos have put a hole in my mystery photographer theory.  Because these could have been taken by one of two certain someones.)

But I think this last one may be more revealing,  or not.

P2240014

Ummm, yea.  I think what we are looking at here is my probable suspect of 99% of the photos….well, except this one.  And this, of course, was taken by her accomplice who does a little better job of concealing his identity.  Notice he is in NONE of the photos.

It’s ALL true

I’m sure many of you have received this e-mail on more than one occasion.  It has always cracked me up.  And after today I can completely verify it as accurate information.

***THE FOLLOWING ARE NOT MY ORIGINAL THOUGHTS***

Many women are afraid of their first mammogram, but there’s no need to worry. By taking a few minutes each day for a week preceding the exam, and doing the following practice exercises, you will be totally prepared. And you can do this right in your own home!

Exercise 1

Open your refrigerator door and insert one breast between the door and the main box. Have one of your strongest friends slam the door shut and lean on the door for good measure. Hold that position for five seconds (while you hold your breath). Repeat again, in case the first time wasn’t effective enough.

Exercise 2

Visit your garage at 3 am when the temperature of the cement floor is just perfect. Take off your clothes and lie comfortably on the floor with one breast wedged under the rear tire of the car. Ask a friend to slowly back the car up until your breast is sufficiently flattened and chilled. Turn over and repeat for the other breast.

Exercise 3

Freeze two metal bookends overnight. Strip to the waist. Invite a stranger into the room. Press the bookends against one of your breasts. Smash the bookends together as hard as you can. Set an appointment with the stranger to meet next week and do it again!!

CONGRATULATIONS! Now you have nothing at all to worry about when you go for your mammogram!

-------------------------------------------------------

My suggestion would be to save this on your computer and get it back out somewhere around your 40th birthday and give it a little review.

Then you’ll be ready for your first mammogram!

Your welcome.

Tag Teamed

There's an unstoppable Meme going on in the wonderful world of facebook called "25 Random Things About Me".

I was tagged.

Fourteen times.

The pressure was on. And I was sick and tired of logging on every day and being tagged one more time.

I made my list.

I am sharing it with you.

1. During my lifetime I've attended 2 elementary schools, 1 middle school, 3 high schools, 1 community college, 1 liberal arts college and 2 major universities. Resulting in a BS in Chemistry, a BS in Nursing and a Master's in Nursing.

2. I always wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon but I didn't think I was smart enough to go to medical school. Now I realize I was, but glad I didn't.

3. I would rather cut the grass in the middle of July in Alabama than do all the other household chores.

4. Oprah Winfrey and I have something in common. No, it's not the amount of money in our bank accounts. Her thyroid doesn't work and mine doesn't either. Unfortunately for her she gained 20 pounds over the last year and me just 4. (and I'm working on it)

5. I have been crowned "Queen" twice in my lifetime. No it wasn't for beauty, but athletics. First at Shades Mountain Christian School I was the Sports Queen in 10th grade. And at Judson College I was crowned the Field Hockey Queen of 1989. So I expect bows and a curtsy from everyone.

6. When I was about 6 I took a class called "White Gloves and Party Manners". So I actually know how to act at the appropriate times. It also involved a fashion show where I wore an UGLY rust colored winter coat. What can I say, it was the 70's.

7. Believe it or not, I was very introverted until I went off to Judson College. My mother left me there without a car, and refused to come get me. I became class President my first two years. It was the best 4 years of my life.

8. I've climbed to the top of that dome with three people tagged in this note. Stupidest thing I have ever done in my entire life!

9. I have a terrible fear of flying in airplanes and I usually help land the plane with my feet! The longest flight I've been on was 14 hours to my brother's wedding in Japan. I took an Ambien at the beginning of the flight....slept for only 2 hours!

10. Despite my excessive athleticism during the first 25 years of my life....I am now over it! Although I do miss my hot legs and buns of steel.

11. My favorite comfort food is a peanut butter and marshmallow creme sandwich, with a stack of Pringles and a glass of ice cold milk. I was introduced to the fluffernutter sandwich at a spend the night party in 2nd grade.

12. I have never been to Greece. I hope to one day visit the "homeland" and see the small island of Skyros where my grandfather came from. And while I'm here, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" totally reminds me of my Greek family. OPA!

13. I am a bit of a neat freak. Call it Type-A, OCD behavior. Whatever. I have it. It's more in control at work than at home. I've learned to let a few things go at the house.

14. I don't like that I tend to let little things get to me. And I hate that I let it have the "ruin the rest of my day" effect on me. I am working on it.

15. I cannot sleep with socks on. Not even on the coldest day of winter.

16. I love the cute little Jonas Brothers. Probably as much as I loved Shaun Cassidy back in the day. And Nick is my favorite.

17. Creme Brulee is my favorite dessert ever. Followed closely by ice cream and chocolate chip cookies.

18. I have a blog on the Internet. It's a creative outlet and a place where family and friends keep up with us. I've met a lot of new "friends" through my blog and hope to meet many of them one day. Not bad for a girl who never made A's in English.

19. I want to take take cake decorating classes. So I can make cakes like Duff, of course.

20. Motion sickness has plagued me my entire life. I have thrown up in every one of my dad's cars, except the two he owns now. In all fairness I did warn him every time and he wouldn't pull over.

21. Jesus Christ came into my heart on October 18, 1979 at Shades Mountain Christian School. My 6th grade teacher, Mr. James, led me to the Lord.

22. I've never had a closer group of girlfriends than my friends I made at Judson College. I miss them and that kind of friendship dearly. And thanks to FB we all keep in touch a lot more!

23. I love that my son is a lot like me when I was growing up. He loves anything related to science and is tender-hearted and quite shy. He has the sweetest smile and I love to hear him laugh.

24. God has a sense of humor. He gave me a daughter. I wouldn't trade her for anything in the world. I love that she sets goals and accomplishes them. She is beautiful and very funny. Her teacher says she spends a lot of time organizing her desk. I like that.

25. I am blessed with a wonderful husband who puts up with me despite my shortcomings. He loves the Lord and serves Him faithfully. I love Jim with all my heart and thank the Lord for him daily!

Dear John

By the time you read this, I will be gone.

It’s been a great three years, but it’s time for us to part ways.

You were a great friend for the first couple years.

However, over the last year I have developed less of a love for you.

Every time we met, it just wasn’t right for me anymore.

Our meetings became boring and monotonous.

I felt like we weren’t going anywhere together.

It’s nothing that YOU did, it was all me.

I wish only the best for you as you move on to someone else.

I hope they develop the immediate love for you that I once had.

May their love for you be strong and long lasting.

I only wish you the best.  You know that.

Good-bye old friend.

Boxers or Briefs

Just a little laugh to get your week started:

Sunday, January 11, 2009

Facebook is:

1.  A highly addictive wonderful site on the internet where I have caught up with friends from middle school through college.

2.  A place to keep up with current friends.

3.  A good way to keep up with extended family members who live all across the U.S.

4.  A fun place to get to know some of your bloggy peeps even better.

5.  A great place to post photos of your family to share with all your friends.

6. An even better place to drag out photo albums from college, learn how to work your scanner, upload the photos and enjoy the comments.

7.  A place where you may find a photo of your bum posted by a friend; who then requests the owner of the bum “tag” them self so all can know exactly whose bum is being viewed.

image

8.  A place where you can “Super Poke” your friends whenever you desire.   Here’s a couple of favorites:

“get your hair did with”      image

“work what yo mama gave ya”   image

9.  Is a great place for me to exercise my sense of humor or lack thereof by placing comments on friend’s status updates and freshly uploaded photos.

10.  And my most recent discovery, thanks to Facebook:

After playing a few of the online word games (PathWords, Scramble, Scrabble), I have discovered that my vocabulary is SERIOUSLY lacking compared to my friends.  I guess all those years of not participating in extra-curricular reading is now catching up with me.

And note to self: just because BooMama rocks the PathWords does not mean you can.

What’s new pussycat?

Whoa, whoa, whoa…..

WARNING:  Random bullet points about to begin.

  • I must first talk about the weather we’ve had for the last 2 weeks.  Clouds….rain….grey sky….clouds….rain….  You get the picture.  It is ON MY NERVES.  I have total sympathy for the people who live in Seattle.  I was thinking one more day of this and I was going to need a little happy pill.  Which might not be a bad idea most days, clouds or not.

  • Next topic….resolutions or not.  It seemed to be the topic of choice at work this week.  Everyone talking about theirs and how some have already failed at them.  I am not a resolution maker.  Sure, I’d like to be less sedentary and loose a little weight.  But that is nothing new to me this year or from any other.    Why set yourself up for failure is what I say.

  • School started back on Monday.  WOOOOOO!  *clapping wildly*  However, to dampen the party mood around the house, homework began full force Monday afternoon.  There just has to be a better system than sending that stuff home.  I mean can’t they be in school a couple of extra hours for “homework time.”

  • The 4th grader came home with a project that will be completed in sections over the next 5 months on our great state of Alabama.  However, tears began flowing as he focused on the “big picture” and flipped through the State Notebook filled with endless pages of questions and blank picture boxes.  "I can’t do it all, it’s too much” he cried.  We had to do some serious S-L-O-W talking to get him to understand his wonderful teachers divided the book into sections and created a timeline.  He is still a bit panicked.  I have NO idea where he gets that from.

  • Last night I was shocked to discover the greatest decade of my life has been merely reduced to a fraternity party.  I did a double take and even got the hubby to verify what I was seeing.  It is sad but true, the little frat boy (and I mean little boy) had the 80’s hotty, Magnum P.I., on the back of his “Tribute to the Eighties Party” t-shirt.    *sigh*

  • Speaking of the best decade of my life, thanks to those of you who wished my friend Teresa a happy 40th birthday on Monday!  I am happy to report she is adjusting fine to her more seasoned age.  And I just have to show you all what I sent her.  I wanted to decorate her lawn with 40 pink flamingos but waited too late.  However, I did order this awesome cookie bouquet for her from Cookies by Design:

image

  • I think she especially liked the tombstone that read “Happy Birthday You Buzzard”.  Good stuff.  And thanks to my tribute post, her 8 year old daughter has been like a broken record saying, “Lordy, lordy, look whose 40"!  Oops.

  • And for some really good news…..Kristen’s ‘Fro Me to You blog party starts back tomorrow.  You all know that it’s my favorite day in blogdom.  I love getting out my old photos and sharing them with you.  If you don’t participate you should.  For more info on the blog carnival click here.

So, what’s new with you???

Halp!

I apologize for my obvious absence the last few days.  I’ve been busy working on a project which doesn’t seem to be going well.

First, I give you Exhibit A:

2008-04-05-1547-40

Now for the dilemma.

Can anyone tell me how in the world I can get a photo taken while playing Guitar Hero that doesn’t show my i’ve-had-it-since-birth double chin????

Seriously.  *cough*

Now I present you with Exhibits 1-4:

#1.

PC270134 Nope, that’s not it.

#2.

PC270130_edited-1 Oh, that’s better…. note to self, DISTANCE is good.

#3.

PC270129Hmmmm, this might work.  And it does distort the short stature factor.

#4.

P1030212_edited-1  Looks like a combo of #2 and #3.   Not bad.

I’m out of answers….and 40 years later I’ve learned to embrace the chin(s).  However, I’m going to have to enforce a ban on all photos that accentuate its presence.

Case closed!

Patiently waiting

For the last 10 years, I have always enjoyed a trip to see my doctor because I am generally the youngest person in the waiting room by DECADES!  Today was no different.  The person closest to my age today was probably 65.  And when you spend a little time with that many “seasoned” people, things happen.

As I pulled into the parking lot today, there was a near collision between a Buick and Oldsmobile while backing out of their spaces.  I approached the area with great caution and hurriedly headed toward the door.

While I patiently waited for my name to be called I began taking notes of all the things going on around me in that waiting room.

Why?  Because I need to know what to do as I get older.  Plus I certainly had nothing better to do and I’m always on the look out for good blog material.

First of all, I immediately noticed the waiting room was about 80 degrees.  And I’m almost positive I was the only one that did not have a stitch of fleece on my body.

There seemed to be a lot of LOUD repeating going on around me.  “NO.  You are here to get your blood drawn!”  Of course, it could have been hard to hear over the man sound asleep snoring in the chair adjacent to mine.

Note to self, schedule appointment WITH hubby for the same day and time, that way we can “knock it out” in just one trip.  These folks are brilliant.

FOUR WORDS:  Elastic waistband, SAS shoes.

Top three hair colors:  Paula Deen grey, Lucille Ball red, and Betty Rubble black.

I don’t suppose bald is a hair color.

I also noticed a sign on each bathroom door, which thankfully I could still read from the back corner chair.  The signs read, “NO SMOKING”.  Which only verifies to me that someone did and warranted the sign.

Because the TV was on some liberal slanted news channel I decided to check out a few magazines.  Anybody need me to catch them up on the latest issues of LARGE PRINT Reader’s Digest, AARP, or Modern Maturity???

I was so relieved when the nurse called my name.  Because the last few minutes prior I watched in awe as the elderly gentleman next to me groomed his nails with what appeared to be a machete size pocket-knife.

I thought the doctor’s office fun was finally done until I saw this in my exam room:

Nothing better than an interactive Viagra calculator to help men calculate their E.D. number while they wait.  Notice the buttons and readout screen on the bottom right.   Seems to me the print on this is way TOO small for the age man I saw in the waiting room.  Which leads me to suspect it was developed by a older woman.

So next time you are at your doctor’s office, pay attention.  You just might miss something!

Found this at my blog peep Jen’s, of Dust Bunny Hostage fame. I liked it and decided to use it since I am lacking in creativity this week.

Random Conversations

Conversation with cute little college girl at Tar-jay today:

Little Girl: "Uh, excuse me ma'am"

(in my mind: she just called me ma'am)

Me: "yes"

Little Girl: "ummm, I don't really know how to buy this, but could you, ummm, look at this lettuce and tell me if it's a good one"

Me: *Inspects one head of iceberg lettuce in packaging* "looks like a good one to me"

Little Girl: "ok, thank you very much, I wasn't really sure"

Me: "you want to make sure the outside leaves are, ummm, green and that's about it"

Little Girl: "yes, ma'am and thank you, i just wanted to check with somebody"

(in my mind: she called me ma'am AGAIN)

Ok, folks, some mother has sent her daughter off to college who cannot buy a head of iceberg lettuce! She had spectacular manners; however, that won't curb hunger pains.

So parents please do your part and empower your children to shop in the produce section.

Overheard today while sitting in the carpool line at my kids school, while high school football players passed my car:

"WOW, look at that"

"What?"

"Little windshield wipers on the headlights"

"Oh yea! That is TIGHT"

"It's AWESOME"

I hope my car is still that cool, when my son is driving it to school. In 7 years!
